I don’t know how I’m the first to review this restaurant because it’s been here for at least 15 years that I know of! It’s a simple restaurant and all the seating is outdoors. They only open on Saturdays and Sundays. Their menu is small, but special. They serve crab meat and smooth-shell crab (which live in mangrove swamps) stews for appetizers. They are famous for their main course, which is free-range chicken. Known here as chicken “capoeira” or “caipira”, served as a stew. You can also order it “cabidela” style which is cooked in its own blood (originally a Portuguese style of cooking, but it has become very popular in former Portuguese colonies, including Brazil). It’s actually delicious! You can order just a portion, half a chicken or a whole chicken; you can also choose to have it just by itself of with all their accompaniments (rice, pasta, black-eyed peas, boiled yucca and vinaigrette). The service is a little slow, but the food is unique. Even the governor has eaten here, so I’d recommend giving it a try if you’re in the area.
