Entirely unassuming at Santa Clara Street 122 in Copacabana, Bela Cake could easily get lost amongst dozens of other Snack Bars were it not for a welcoming display and friendly customer service, a small line of locals prompting closer inspection on Friday and the results universally impressive despite low prices.
Open from 07h00 until 22h00 daily, and conveniently offering English translations for items ranging savory to sweet, it is only after taking a long look that first timers should consider placing an order, Pao de Queijo sold by five crisp with an airy center and Quibe with a variety of fillings highlighted by lightly fried Beef made stretchy by Cheese.
Familiar at this point with some of Brazil’s Cakes, both Lime and layers of Coconut glanced over in favor of three others, suffice it to say Bela Cake’s Carrot outperforms most despite *looking* sloppy, bits of Vegetable pairing well to liquid Cocoa while Corn and Manioc slices are both restrained in sweetness but moist and delicious - particularly when considering the whole lots' R$34 price.
